Malaysia Airlines has announced additional flights between Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and Sydney for the upcoming summer holiday season.

Malaysia Airlines will introduce two new weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, from 8 December 2022 until 3 February 2023. This is in addition to its existing twice-daily flights which will be increased to 16 flights weekly. The additional Melbourne flights are operated by the Airbus A350-900, with four seats in Business Suite, 35 seats in Business and 247 seats in Economy.

In addition, from 30 December 2022 until 3 February 2023, Malaysia Airlines will introduce one weekly flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney. This is in addition to its existing twice-daily flights, amounting to an increase of 15 flights weekly. The additional Sydney flights are operated by the Airbus A330-300, with 27 seats in Business and 261 seats in Economy and Airbus A330-200, with 19 seats in Business and 268 seats in Economy.

These additional flights are now open for booking in the Global Distribution System (GDS) and will enable passengers to connect seamlessly from Melbourne and Sydney to Domestic Malaysia, Manila, Bangkok, Phuket, London, Delhi, Mumbai, Vietnam and more.

Malaysia Airlines is currently operating 38 flights per week from Australia and New Zealand and is on track to increase to 54 flights per week by December 2022. Melbourne and Sydney will exceed pre-COVID capacity over this period – a direct result of the strong demand in the Australian market.

Giles Gilbert, the regional manager for Malaysia Airlines Australia & New Zealand, is delighted that demand has led to the scheduling of the additional flights.

“With summer holidays just around the corner, the demand for leisure travel is at its peak,” Gilbert said.

“The enthusiasm for international travel is driving bookings and these additional 24 flights from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne and Sydney have been introduced to meet the surge in demand during the year-end holiday season.

“We’re seeing strong sales from the second half of the year onwards, resulting in new milestones post-pandemic. Our trade relationships are vitally important to us, and I appreciate our trade partners’ continued support. The massive increase in bookings in the last six months is definitely a testament to this.

“We look forward to having more Australian travellers onboard to experience our Malaysian Hospitality in the months ahead.”
