Edited by Travel Weekly

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) is delighted to announce the signing of the second Holiday Inn & Suites in Australasia, partnering for the first time with Felix Capital to open Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra Sunshine Coast in early 2028.

Overlooking the pristine beaches and picturesque coastal town of Caloundra, this new hotel will form part of a mixed-use development in the heart of the Sunshine Coast.

The striking 160-room hotel will include 33 suites and feature all the Holiday Inn brand hallmarks including an open lobby, all-day dining restaurant and lobby cafe, meeting spaces, a well-equipped fitness centre, outdoor pool and Kids Club. In addition, guests will enjoy magnificent views of Caloundra while enjoying lunch, dinner and drinks at the hotel’s signature rooftop restaurant and sky bar.

With over 70 years of history, Holiday Inn is one of the most loved and recognised hotel brands in the world and has deep roots in family and business travel, stemming from the vision of its founder, Kemmons Wilson, to provide a quality, consistent and authentic travel experience for all.

Marking IHG’s continued growth within the Premium & Essentials segment, the hotel will be the first Holiday Inn & Suites in regional Queensland and will showcase the elevated freshness of the Holiday Inn brand. With a brilliant location on Bulcock Street, Caloundra, the popular leisure and family-friendly destination is 90-minutes’ drive from Brisbane, and just 35-minutes from Maroochydore Airport. Plus, a light rail with connectivity from Brisbane Airport was recently announced by Queensland State Government, to be completed in advance of the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane.

Cameron Burke, director of development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “We’re delighted to be bringing our Holiday Inn & Suites brand to the Sunshine Coast and thrilled to be partnering with Felix Capital on this exciting hotel in Caloundra. As part of the world’s largest hotel brand family, Holiday Inn’s inimitable hallmarks strongly align to the approachability and leisure-orientated nature of the Sunshine Coast market.

“Balancing a desired location and outstanding aspect, with convenient accessibility to a myriad of diverse recreational activities, we expect Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra Sunshine Coast to be a popular destination for leisure and business travellers alike, particularly with families.”

Michael Maroun, CEO and Founder, Felix Capital said: “Sunshine Coast boasts an abundance of opportunity for the community, and we are proud to be making our mark in Caloundra. Our vision aligns with the Holiday Inn brand as we bring to market the area’s first international hotel, offering an accommodation, dining, leisure and business precinct that is modern, affordable and convenient.

“Felix Capital is pleased to have partnered with IHG to see this revolutionary project come to life while creating hundreds of new jobs and showing Queensland, Australia and the world the beauty of the Sunshine Coast. We believe this is going to be the crown jewel of the region.”

Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra, Sunshine Coast is the latest signing in IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Essentials portfolio and will be IHG’s 10th hotel in Queensland. The new signing strengthens Holiday Inn’s growth momentum in the region with eight Holiday Inn family-branded hotels opened in the last two years across Australasia, and three now in the pipeline.
