Hamilton Island virtual reality to hit agencies

Hamilton Island virtual reality to hit agencies

Virtual reality will be used to help agents sell Hamilton Island and Qantas to clients, with one agency to be chosen to roll out the 3D, 360-degree interactive vision.

While it was too early to announce which agency will be appointed as a partner, the Hamilton Island sales team will be using the technology as an educational tool in the coming weeks.

“There are certain key messages that we are trying to get across – that you can fly directly to the island, we have a new golf course, close to the reef,” Hamilton Island general manager marketing Denny-Lyn Dixon said.

The new technology was created with partners Qantas, Samsung, Hamilton Island and Rapid VR.

“We’ll choose one group and work really closely with them and do some fun activities with them,” Dixon told Travel Weekly.

The visual includes a helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef including Whitehaven Beach and the Heart Reef. Then there’s swimming with turtles and fish, followed by luxury resort qualia.

“As one of the largest private investors in Australian tourism, we are constantly looking at different ways to showcase the wonderful destinations on our network,” Qantas Group executive brand, marketing and corporate affairs Olivia Wirth said.

“Our Virtual Reality headsets have already proven a hit with our customers in our lounges and on some of our international flights,” Wirth said.

“While it’s fascinating to be transported away through virtual reality, nothing is more remarkable than visiting the reality of Hamilton Island itself,” Hamilton Island’s chief executive officer Glenn Bourke said.

The Hamilton Island and Great Barrier Reef App will be available early July for download for smartphone and android users.
