Flight cancelled after plane gets stuck in snow

An Indian passenger plane has become waylaid after getting stuck in a mound of snow.

The IndiGo flight was taxiing out of Srinagar Airport on 13 January on its way to Delhi when the plane’s engine cowling became wedged in the snow.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321, was forced to deplane its 231 passengers to check for possible damage.

IndiGo told The Times of India in a statement that flight 6E 2559 was held back at Srinagar.

“While taxiing out, the aircraft craft came in close contact with the snow, which was accumulated adjacent to the taxi-way,” the airline said.

“The aircraft is held at Srinagar for further inspections. An alternate flight was organised from Srinagar to Delhi to accommodate all the passengers.”
