Divorce hotel launches in UK

Forget booking a stay at a swanky hotel to celebrate your honeymoon, punters can now opt to check in when they’ve decided to check out of their marriage.

So where should the broken hearted head to? The UK’s first Divorce Hotel in York, which is basically set up to help ease the process of settling soon-to-be divorced couples’ affairs while staying in separate comfy rooms without having to argue about who’s hogging the bed.

According to a report on nine.com.authe reasoning behind staying at the hotel is that it is a “neutral environment”, making it easier for a civil agreement to be reached”.

Per the news site, the only catch is the Divorce Hotel will only allow couples to stay if they’re on speaking terms – so screaming matches or hurling plates at each other during dinner is not permitted. Speaking of dinner, the hotel kindly offers a final meal for the couple as husband and wife, “before the papers are finalised, in a bid to provide closure and a new beginning for the couple as they, well, uncouple,” the website states.

The Divorce Hotel is actually “more a concept than an actual location, running across various different venues, the first being in York, with a view to expand across the UK,” nine.com.au states.

While the hotel does not include any legal fees, a weekend stay at the Divorce Hotel will set couples back a huge chunk, anywhere between $10,000 to $17,000.

According to the site, the concept was brought to the UK after an American mediator found success with the idea in the US.
