Travelport to disrupted air passengers: Your hotel room is waiting in the palm of your hand

Being stranded at an airport is an airline passenger’s worst nightmare. However, thanks to new, industry-first mobile-based technology, available from Travelport, the pain of airline disruptions is now a thing of the past.

Travelport Resolve which was formulated from an idea developed in the Travelport Labs Accelerator program, transforms the current labour-intensive, manual hotel sourcing, booking, and payment process that typically plagues airlines during disruptive irregular operations (IROPS) situations.

By combining Travelport’s mobile expertise and its ability to source and book hotel rooms across the globe, and allowing airlines to automate and monitor the entire hotel distribution process, Travelport Resolve demonstrates the unique power of Travelport’s platform to improve the travel experience for airlines and their customers.

Travelport Resolve also provides airlines with actionable insights into IROPS, including hotel-related costs, room usage, passenger status and activity patterns, with up-to-the-minute reporting tools that analyze the true cost of disruptions to an airline’s business and identify improvements an airline can make to its service.

The product will soon include predictive features enabling airlines to recognize potential IROPS situations, along with local conditions or events, that may create limited hotel availability. Travelport Resolve will then automatically procure room inventory needed to meet passenger demand.

Personal Travel Managers Rolling Through the Canadian Rockies

Canada famil

One of the great perks of working in the travel industry is the opportunity to indulge in the love of travel. A recent Canada mega-famil gave five of TravelManagers’ personal travel managers (PTMs) the opportunity to do just this, as part of a group that experienced one of the world’s great rail journeys: the Rocky Mountaineer.

Kim Mason, representative for Cronulla in New South Wales was one of the PTMs that embarked on the six-night itinerary that began in Vancouver and concluded in Calgary, with stops in Kamloops, Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise along the way.

“Our last full day was one of the best days on the entire famil: an eight-minute gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, overlooking the town of Banff and the surrounding mountains, followed by a flightseeing helicopter tour. You could see for miles and the scenery was incredible,” she said.

TravelManagers’ Executive General Manager, Michael Gazal, says the company is always eager to encourage staff to take advantage of famils such as this one when they present themselves.

“Not only do our PTMs benefit from the opportunity to experience these amazing travel destinations for themselves, which in turn enables them to do a better job of looking after their clients, but they also return home full of energy and enthusiasm for their work and with a fresh passion for the world of travel.”

This week, from Thursday, July 20, till Sunday, July 23, visitors to Castle Towers Shopping Centre, in Sydney’s north-west Hills District, will have the chance to view Macao as if they were there – through 360-degrees. While seated and geared with goggles at a specially designed stand, they will enjoy a few closeups of the former Portuguese enclave’s major attractions, old and new. They will also have an opportunity to fly like an eagle, experiencing an exhilarating Macau Tower bungee jump, 233 metres above the ground.

If you happen to miss this week’s extravaganza, further shopping centre events will be staged at Chatswood Chase from August 3-6, and Eastgardens Westfield from August 17-20. The showing of the VR imagery, filmed in Macao earlier this year, coincides with the Macao Government Tourism Office’s links with Xiamen Airlines in launching a new “One Fare – Two Cities” product.

It’s the first time the Chinese airline has teamed with the MGTO (Australia) to offer a dedicated fare, the price – from $768 – including a complimentary night’s stay in Xiamen (6-24hrs) or a free coach tour (4 -24hrs) of a city popular for its beaches and colonial past.
