The best part of our week is writing this agent wrap. Mostly because it’s on a Friday, but still.
AU/NZ agents explore Papua New Guinea
Six lucky Australian & New Zealand travel agents have recently returned from Papua New Guinea following a ten day famil. The trip spanned several captivating locations, including the thriving town of Alotau on the far-east mainland, Kavieng, which is renowned as a divers paradise, the picture-perfect beach area of Bougainville, and the history treasure-trove that is Rabaul.
The itinerary showcased the diversity of the destination’s tourism offerings, with agents experiencing a mix of activities from exploring World War II historical sites to snorkelling in crystal clear waters, and climbing Tavurvur, an active volcano located in Rabaul, to experiencing the native wildlife at Port Moresby Nature Park.
The group also attended the Lukim PNG Nau Tourism Expo, the only annual event of its kind in the country that unites the entire tourism industry. The expo provides an in-country opportunity for exhibitors to meet face-to-face with travel agents from all over the world.
Personal Travel Managers experience the best of Oahu
For many of the personal travel managers (PTMs) who attended TravelManagers’ recent annual national conference in Honolulu, the chance to extend their stay and join one of the pre- or post-conference famils was too great to pass up. For thirteen participants, this entailed a four-day, three nights experiencing the highlights of the island of Oahu, from outrigger canoe surfing at Waikiki Beach to a tour of some of Hollywood’s most famous movie locations at Kualoa Private Nature Reserve.
The famil, which was exclusive to TravelManagers, was hosted by Hawaii Tourism Oceania (HTO), who created an itinerary that showcased the best of Oahu on the ground and from the air, but also ensured that participants departed Hawaii with plenty of local knowledge to pass on to their clients, including which resort had the most amazing pool, how to manage tipping and where to find a great happy hour.
Of course, no visit to Oahu would be complete without some serious shopping and eating. Their visit conveniently coincided with Hawaii’s 24th annual Made in Hawaii festival: a wonderful opportunity to pick up all manner of Hawaiian-made products.
