AirAsia X comes on as official airline partner for City2Surf
Sydney’s City2Surf, the world’s largest fun run, has received a sky-high boost with the announcement that AirAsia X (AAX) is coming on board as the Official Airline Partner for this year’s event.
AirAsia’s leading medium-haul low-cost airline is ready for take-off, with daily services bringing a post-pandemic record number of passengers from Malaysia and across Asia to Sydney, ahead of the premier 14 km running event this 13 August.
With less than two weeks to go, AirAsia X is ensuring everyone can have a go with great value fares from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney and return, on sale now starting from AUD $265 each way.
As a part of the partnership AirAsia X will be rewarding the male and female City2Surf winners with two return AirAsia X flights each.
“We are thrilled to add the City2Surf to our portfolio of sponsorship partners,” CEO, AirAsia X, Benyamin Ismail, said.
“Sydney has always been one of our core and most popular destinations in our network and we are proud to play a strong role making it affordable for international entrants to attend this year’s event.
“Our brand is all about delivering affordable fun and entertainment and as such, we will also be running a number of promotional activities in the lead up to and during the event.
“Including the chance to ‘spin the wheel’ to win return flights for two to Kuala Lumpur, AirAsia branded merchandise and more at our branded booths in The Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park and AirAsia X marquee at the event zone in Bondi Beach.
“Moreover, City2Surf is not just about the run; it is about making a positive impact together.
“By participating, we are all supporting various charities and community organisations dedicated to creating a better world for us all.
“We are looking forward to welcoming strong numbers of overseas participants to Sydney, providing a truly multicultural celebration of running.”
Jeremy Kann, vice president – global partnerships (APAC), The IRONMAN Group – organisers of the City2Surf -, welcomed AirAsia X to this year’s event.
“The City2Surf team is thrilled to welcome AirAsia X onboard as a partner for the 2023 event,” Kann, said.
“Over more than 50 years the City2Surf has grown into the world’s largest fun run and a bucket list event for runners from around the world and we look forward to working with AirAsia X to bring more athletes from Malaysia and across Asia to the event.
“The City2Surf has a great community atmosphere, with it bringing people from all walks of life together and is a great celebration of being active and all that is great about Sydney.
“With just under two weeks to go until this year’s event we already have more 70,000 runners set to join us on the start line and we look forward to that continuing to grow between now and Sunday 13 August.”
AirAsia X resumed direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney in September 2022 post pandemic and flies daily on the popular route (and up to 11 times weekly during peak periods).
AirAsia X also flies daily across the Tasman between Sydney and Auckland as one of the only airlines flying the comfortable widebody A330 aircraft on the route.
From Kuala Lumpur, Australian and Kiwi guests can connect onto 130 destinations throughout AirAsia’s broad network including India, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, China and many more – always at the best value prices.
