By admin

A sharp rise in capacity saw Virgin Australia loads fall in August with the carrier saying the figures reflected a new business model.

Available seat kilometres – the measurement for capacity – climbed 9.3% across its network in the first eight months of the year leading to loads falling from 81% to 77%.

In August alone, capacity increased 9.6% with loads slipping 4.3 percentage points to 74.3%.

Year to date yield growth was positive on both international and domestic routes, the airline said.

Internationally, capacity climbed 3.1% in the first eight months with passenger numbers up 5.1% to 455,000. In the domestic market, capacity increased almost 7% and passenger numbers by 2.4% to 3.34 million.
