Alice Springs is the latest destination to be reinstated to Tiger Australia's network, with the low cost carrier operating services from both Sydney and Melbourne this morning.

The airline's commercial director, Carly Brear, said the carrier's return was prompted by "overwhelming demand" for services to the Red Centre, with the destination winning a recent poll to decide where Tiger should fly next.

"We're thrilled to be announcing not one, but two new low cost services to a community that currently lacks low cost options and also heavily relies on tourism," she said.

The two new routes, both operating four times weekly, add 2880 weekly seats through Alice Springs airport

Meanwhile, the NT minister for tourism and major events, Matt Conlan, urged Australians to take advantage of the affordable fares to visit "this particular part of their own backyard".
