Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas is offering a heavily processed brew at its resorts in the Maldives and Thailand.

Innocently called Black Ivory Coffee, it is retrieved from the poo of Thai elephants who eat the beans, digest them and excrete them. Pity the elephant carer, whose job it is to fish through the excrement to find the caffeine riddled beans.

Apparently these beans are naturally refined because the digestive enzymes of the elephant break down coffee protein, which is responsible for bitterness in coffee. Less protein means no bitterness.

The most time consuming and smell intensive coffee production process comes with a hefty price tag. At $1,100 per kilogram, this coffee is, believe it or not, the most expensive in the world. With only 50 kilograms available for sale, it is also the most exclusive and rare coffee product in the world today.

Eight percent of all sales will be donated to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation to help with free veterinary care for rescued street elephants.

Would this exclusive product entice you to stay at these resorts?

Have your say below.
