TA looks to tap into cruise growth

Tourism leaders are looking to cash in on the cruise growth in Australia by launching online training for travel agents in North America.

Under the Aussie Specialist Cruise Module, retailers will learn about the benefits of cruising in Australia with information about berths and the range of pre and post touring options.

The module, launched today at the cruise3sixty cruise conference in Florida, will form part of the Aussie Specialist Program.

“Cruising is the fastest growing sector of the tourism market in Australia, with 24% average yearly growth over the last five years, fast outpacing many of our international competitor destinations,” Tourism Australia chief executive Andrew McEvoy said.

“As an island we are lucky to have access points for cruise ships right around our country, welcoming visitors into the most beautiful harbours and docks in the world.”

McEvoy said seven states and territories contributed to the module by creating itineraries for passengers.
