Starwood confirms Perth for Aloft brand's Australia debut
By admin

The first Australian hotel under Starwood’s "next generation" Aloft brand will open in Perth Rivervale in late 2016.

The Rivervale suburb is located just east of the CBD, with the new property part of a significant redevelopment to create a commercial and residential precinct along the riverfront.

Starwood Asia Pacific president Stephen Ho predicted the loft-style hotel would appeal to "stylish" travellers that are "always on" due to its emphasis on urban design, accessible technology and live music performances at its signature W XYZ bar – with easy access from the CBD.

The 224-room property is Starwood’s third in the West Australian capital, following the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Perth in 2012 and the signing of a management agreement for The Weston Perth which is due to open in early 2017.

It is owned by BAAC – an affiliate of BGC which also owns The Westin development.

Starwood senior vice president acquisitions and development Asia Pacific Matthew Fry  described Perth as a "dynamic" market.

“Perth is undergoing a rapid transformation with the opening of restaurants, bars and retail outlets and a $750 million investment in its airport, all of which are creating a growing need for new, innovative and affordable accommodations,” he said.

“This is the right time and destination for us to introduce the Aloft brand to Australia.”

Starwood’s Australian portfolio currently includes ten operating hotels across the country, with the Sheraton Melbourne Hotel scheduled to open later this month and The Westin Perth in 2017.

In addition, there are four new hotels to open in the Pacific region including Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji; Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort & Spa; Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort and Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows.

The company expects to have 20 operating hotels and resorts in the Pacific region by the end of 2014.

Aloft launched in 2008 and now has 100 hotels open and in the pipeline across 14 countries.
