South African Tourism (SAT) has confirmed it will focus on promoting its heritage and culture assets as it widens its global marketing reach.

In the next year SAT will open offices in Brazil, Angola, Kenya and Nigeria. It will also bolster its presence in South Korea, Russia, Scandinavia, Shanghai, Uganda, Ghana and Tanzania.

Meanwhile,  the tourism body will showcase South Africa's heritage and culture experiences with a specially designed pavilion at this year’s Indaba trade show.

“Our market research shows that travellers are increasingly looking to experience the unique, authentic, personal South African stories,” SAT chief executive Thulani Nzima said.

“They are looking to meet the locals, experience where they live, eat where they eat and be part of the country’s culturally rich lifestyle, while learning about the history of this great country,” Nzima added.
