Shenzhen joins Star Alliance

Shenzhen Airlines has formally joined Star Alliance at a ceremony in China.

The carrier, China’s fifth largest, became the 27th member of the alliance and adds 400 daily flights and 70 destinations to Star’s network.

“After 16 months of integration work we have become a Star Alliance member,” Shenzhen Airlines president Feng Gang said at the ceremony at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. “We can now offer our customer global reach while at the same time placing Shenzhen firmly on the map of worldwide air travel.”

Star Alliance chief executive Mark Schwab said the addition of the airline will boost the network not only in China but across Asia.

“Our customers now benefit from improved access throughout the econimically important Pearl River Delta and across southern China,” he said. “Shenzhen Airlines at the same time gains access to a global network with enhanced benefits for its passengers, truly a win win sitiuation.”

Among the benefits will be reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.
