Scoot turns to ex-AirAsia boss
By admin

The former head of commercial at AirAsia is to take the low cost battle to his former employers after being recruited to develop the local operation of Singapore Airlines off-shoot Scoot.

In his role as general manager Australia, Darren Wright will explore commercial opportunities and route expansion and play a lead role in government relations.
Wright spent several years building AirAsia’s presence in Australia and will now perform the same task for Scoot.
He will oversee sales, marketing and distribution, operations, and market planning.
Scoot chief executive Campbell Wilson said Wright’s experience will “engage the Australian consumer, travel trade and authorities much more closely”.
“Darren will also be keeping a lookout for new commercial opportunities and routes so that we can expand our current Australasian footprint of Sydney and the Gold Coast,” he said.
Wright said the launch of another low cost carrier connecting Australia with Asia “presents a huge tourism opportunity for Australia”.
Scoot will launch daily flights between Singapore and Sydney on June 26 with a five times weekly service from Singapore to the Gold Coast starting the following day.
