Qantas builds aircraft out of sand
By admin

Qantas is celebrating its return to the Gold Coast by getting into the holiday spirit with the aid of its bucket and spade.

Until 7pm on Friday February 8, the airline is building an aircraft out of sand in front of Customs House in Sydney's Circular Quay with the help of Tourism Gold Coast and Gold Coast Airport.

The life-size sand sculpture incorporates the interior of the Qantas B737-800, complete with flight deck, six rows of seats, pilots and passengers.

The sandy antics accompany a Facebook competition offering the airline's fans the chance to win flights to the Goldie, open until February 14. It has also launched a retail offer on flights from Sydney to the Gold Coast priced from $89 one way in economy, available until February 11.

Qantas reported an "overwhelming" level of support and record sales for the new three times daily return services.
