Online jobs board targets travellers

Online jobs board targets travellers
By admin

Travellers will now be able to search for seasonal work opportunities across Australia via an online jobs board, designed to help fill the 36,000 tourism jobs that are currently vacant.

Australian businesses will be able to advertise temporary jobs on the new portal which is the result of a collaboration between Tourism Australia and jobs site Monster.com.

Minister for tourism Martin Ferguson announced the new facility at the launch of Tourism Australia's "Best Jobs in the World" campaign in Cairns today.

"Research shows that travellers able to pick up temporary work during their travels are more likely to travel longer and spend more, particularly in regional areas," he said. "We also know that many businesses are seeking to fill seasonal vacancies, often in regional areas, perfectly suited to young people travelling Australia."

In 2012, Working Holiday Makers contributed $2.5 billion to the Australian economy, each spending more than $13,000 on average. The number of young people applying for the program is also on the rise, with a record 222,992 WHM visas granted in 2011-12.

The program is also expanding, with the recent addition of Uruguay and the start of talks with seven new countries, taking the overall number of negotiations to 13.
