Claims relating to the collapse of Sydney-based Travel Agents Nexus have already hit more than $45,000, with that amount expected to double.

The Travel Compensation Fund (TCF) said 17 claims have so far been received after the company went into voluntary liquidation last week.

BRI Ferrier is handling the financial affairs of the firm.

Travel Agents Nexus, a member of the Council of Australian Tour Operators, was an agent-only wholesaler selling a range of product around the world.

Meanwhile, the TCF said a further 30 claims relating to the collapse of Classic International Cruises have been received in the past 48 hours.

TCF chief executive Glen Wells said it has now paid $2.5 million out of the $3.5m claims received.
