Mantra expands network into Bali

Mantra Hotels and Resorts is hopeful its strong brand presence in the domestic market will see its first Asian venture flourish, as it revealed plans for its first resort in Bali.

The 172-room Mantra Nusa Dua will open in December, 10km from Denpasar Airport, with further properties in Lombok and Seminyak to follow over the next two years under the group’s Peppers brand.

Chief executive Bob East said the new property would offer the “same level of service and product” that Australians had come to know in the domestic market.

“It is an exciting time for Mantra and we are so pleased to be opening our first Asian property in Bali, combining a familiar brand name with a popular destination for Australian travellers and further expanding our growing hotel network,” he said.

The hotel firm also revealed a further two properties would join its New Zealand portfolio. The 41-room Peppers Portage in Marlborough Sounds will open on December 1 following a series of enhancements to the boutique property. The same date will also see Mantra Lake Tekapo open its doors, offering 17 villas.

The new additions take Mantra’s New Zealand portfolio to 12 with Pacific expansion set to continue with the 2014 launch of a new Peppers develoment on Naisoso Island in Fiji.

Meanwhile, Mantra reported an increase in both room revenue and occupancy across its CBD and reosrt properties in the first quarter. Revenue climbed 5.6% to reach earnings before tax of $15.4 million, a $2.8 million increase on the same period last year.

“To have both the corporate and leisure hotel network performing well is extremely encouraging and a sign that business travel and tourism in general is thriving,” East said.

The mining boom saw the group’s Perth and Darwin properties record revenue per available room grow 12% year on year, while RevPAR across its 21 CBD properties rose 6.3%.
