Exactly 140 years ago the world's first National Park was declared, paving the way for the first steps of environmental conservation.

"" ""

Named Yellowstone National Park, its 300 geysers make up more than two thirds of the all those found on earth. In fact there are more than 10,000 volcanically-charged thermal features giving Yellowstone its strange landscapes akin to those from anther planet.

""

The super volcano responsible for all this activity is one of the biggest in the world and its eruptions that occur every 600,000 to 900,000 years are among the most violent on the planet. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago and its affects left a blanket of ash that covered much of North America, altered global weather patterns and led to the extinction of many species.

"" ""

Ravaged by deep cold winters the landscape becomes a battleground of survival as bears hibernate, bison and elk roam the lands while packs of gray wolves relentlessly hunt them.

""

Springtime though brings life and tourists – around 3.5 million – and your clients can be one of them on Globus' 11-day Classic Lodges and Parks of the West tour, priced from $2329.
