Ibis brand moves into Adelaide

Ibis brand moves into Adelaide
By admin

The first economy new build hotel to be developed in Adelaide in 20 years will be badged with Accor’s Ibis brand, it has been revealed.

The $65 million project, developed by Hines Property, is scheduled to open in early 2014 to coincide with the opening of the expanded Adelaide Convention Centre.

Accor Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said the 307-room property, the city’s first Ibis, was a “key development” for the South Australian capital.

Its “premium economy” experience would offer a cost effective alternative to the four and five-star properties that are prevalent in the city, he claimed.

“The economy hotel sector is the fastest growing market in global travel, and is set to grow even faster with the rapid expansion of low-cost carriers,” he said.

“Many other hotel groups have talked about delivering economy hotels in Australia, but only Accor has delivered the product.”

McGrath expected the hotel’s launch would stimulate travel from the business and leisure travel sectors.

The hotel chain will announce another new Ibis project later this year, he said.
