Hotel occupancies skewed in WA

By admin

Hotel occupancies in Western Australia's mining and metropolitan regions are thriving as those in tourism regions flag, according to new industry data.
Occupancy rates for 2011's third quarter, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Australia Hotels Association, showed healthy occupancies of 79.2% in Perth and 77% in the North West region, while the South West lagged behind with 43.7%.
AHA chief executive Bradley Woods said the findings underlined the need for continued investment in marketing and promotional support for state tourism.
"We have to look beyond WA's statewide average occupancy rates, which have changed little in recent years, and focus on tourism regions which do not have the benefit of business and resource industry travel that Perth and the North West enjoy," he said.
