Garuda hikes fuel surcharge

Garuda hikes fuel surcharge
By admin

Garuda Indonesia will increase its fuel surcharge on all fares from July 15, despite a drop in the cost of fuel.

Tickets issued from Sydney and Melbourne will see a fuel increase of US$30 each way or US$60 return, while those from Perth will see a US$20 increase each way or US$40 return.

The airline will pay Australian travel agents standard commission on any fuel collected from that date.

Garuda insisted that, despite a recent softening, fuel prices remained high, prompting the increases.

“Even though oil supply and demand has weakened over the last months, jet fuel remains the airline industry’s largest operational cost and market prices remain consistently high with the average year to date fuel prices being at their highest level since 2007/08,” a spokesperson said.
