Fiji Airways to be resurrected

Fiji Airways to be resurrected
By admin

Air Pacific, the national airline of Fiji, will rebrand as Fiji Airways in the latest phase of the airline’s turnaround strategy.

The move marks a return to the airline’s former name, abandoned in 1970 in order to reflect its expanded regional presence.

Managing director and chief executive David Pflieger said the change would see the airline align more closely with its Fijian heritage.

“Returning to Fiji Airways will better reflect our role as Fiji’s national carrier, and also assist Fiji by growing tourism and interest in the nation,” he said.

“Our rebranding is part of an overall turnaround plan – a plan that is working well.”

The carrier claimed changes recently implemented had seen the flag carrier reverse losses, improve its schedules and network and make “significant” investments in new aircraft and onboard product.

It carried 1.1 million passengers in 2010/11, representing a year on year increase of 37,000 passengers which saw revenue increase by F$40 million ($21.9 million).

Its new fleet of A330-200s, due for delivery in 2013, will feature the updated livery, with the brand to be rolled out over the next 18 months.
