Etihad hits 10% stake in Virgin

Etihad Airways’ stake in Virgin Australia has reached 10% as the Abu Dhabi-based carrier increased its equity stake to 221 million shares.

President and chief executive James Hogan once again insisted the expanded stake did not signal a move by Etihad to take control of the Australian airline.

“Our small equity stake reflects the strong working relationship of both airlines and again demonstrates our enduring commitment to the Australian market,” he said.
