Carnival takes hit as disaster strikes

Carnival takes hit as disaster strikes
By admin

Carnival Corporation has estimated voyage disruptions and repair costs will hit earnings in the first half of 2013, as the fire-stricken Carnival Triumph continues to drift off Mexico.

The cruise line projected an earnings per share reduction of US$0.08 to US$0.10 for the six month period.

Meanwhile, the 4200-passenger Triumph has been adrift since a fire struck its engine room on Sunday during a four-day cruise from Galveston in Texas. Two tug boats will tow the ship to Mobile, Alabama where it will arrive on Thursday evening.

While nobody has been injured, passengers have reportedly been subjected to squalid conditions with limited food, power and bathroom access.

Carnival Cruise Lines has reportedly cancelled a further 12 voyages scheduled to be operated by the ship.

The US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the fire in cooperation with the Bahamas Maritime Authority.
