Australia key for Rail Europe sales
By admin

Australia has contributed a quarter of Rail Europe’s global sales in the first six months of the year, making it the top market for ticket sales for the third year running, figures have shown.

The rail ticket distributor, jointly owned by French train operator SNCF Railways and Swiss Federal Railways, reported a 21% increase in worldwide sales and 23% rise in passenger numbers compared to the previous corresponding period.

Cumulative sales hit 133 million Euros ($164.4m) between January and June with year-end figures expected to surpass 200m Euros ($247m).

Rail Europe Australasia manager Richard Leonard predicted further growth as more high speed rail networks emerge.

He added the “improved understanding” of rail travel was partly behind the growth.
