Around 80 people were swimming at Wangi Falls in Litchfield Park on Monday afternoon when a man is his 60’s was bitten on the arm by the saltwater beast.

Wangi Falls is a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists in the dry season and is about a one hour drive south of Darwin.

Wangi Falls remains closed today.

An update from Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Facebook.

Taneka Starr, a Tasmanian visitor who saw the attack told News.com.au, “He saw the croc and warned another man which diverted the croc back to him.”

“People on the viewing platform were screaming at us to get out of the water, which we all did.

“(It was) terrifying.”

Starr, who is a police officer said that a group of swimmers formed a circle to get out of the water safely before she and her sisters began to administer first aid.

“I’m so glad everyone was ok,” she, said.

The attack at Wangi Falls comes just one day after another saltwater crocodile closed Bitter Springs in the Elsey National Park.

The NT government always advises visits to take crocodile safety seriously, government site ‘Crocwise’, says, “Any body of water in the Top End may contain large and potentially dangerous crocodiles.”
