SQ adds flights for summer

Singapore Airlines will add more services to cope with demand during Australia’s summer peak.

Adelaide and Sydney will both receive additional flights, while Sydney and Melbourne will both enjoy an increase in capacity with the addition of the A380.

From Thursday 1 December, through to 30 January, the number of weekly Adelaide services will increase from seven to ten with the inclusion of three supplementary flights a week.

The three additional flights will be operated by a 285 seat Airbus A330 aircraft every Thursday, Sunday and Monday under flight numbers SQ276/277.

Departing from Singapore at 0830 SQ277 will arrive in Adelaide at 1800, while the return flight of SQ276 will depart Adelaide at 1920 arriving in Singapore at 0005 the next morning.

Sydney will also enjoy additional flights during the peak holiday season with SQ262/261 beginning operations from Wednesday 7 December and running until 31 January.

Departing from Singapore on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2240 SQ261 will arrive in Sydney the following day at 0930. It will then return to Singapore as SQ262 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1100 arriving at 1615.

In addition to the supplementary flights, SQ242/241 will be up-gauged to an A380 on 15, 20, 21 and 27 December as well as on 4 and 5 January.

This up-gauge will see Singapore Airlines fly three A380 aircraft to Sydney on these days with SQ232/231 and SQ222/221 also operating the Singapore-Sydney route with an A380.

Melbourne will also enjoy a capacity increase from 1 December when SQ218/217 is operated by a 441 seat Airbus A380.

Victorian customers will also be provided a second flight offering Premium Economy from 3 January when SQ228/227 will operate with four class Boeing 777-300ER.

Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President South West Pacific, Mr Tan Tiow Kor, said the additional capacity to Australia over the summer peak capped off a big year for Singapore Airlines in the region.
“This year has been one of our busiest in Australia in recent times,” Mr Tan said.

“We have launched our new ‘Capital Express service to Canberra and Wellington, opened a new SilverKris Lounge in Brisbane, added a fourth flight between Singapore and Brisbane and delivered Premium Economy to Melbourne.

“We’ve also increased capacity into Sydney and delivered our flatbed Business class product to our customers in Perth and Brisbane.”
