Zika advice for pregnant Aussie travellers

Zika advice for pregnant Aussie travellers

Pregnant women travelling to countries with the Zika virus should apply Australian mosquito repellent from early morning, says an expert.

While echoing the federal government’s warning to reconsider travelling to 22 nations where Zika is transmitted, medical entomologist Dr Cameron Webb acknowledged it may not be possible for everyone to avoid or delay their trips.

Travellers, including pregnant women, should take Australian repellent with them and apply it early as the mosquitoes bite during the day, he said during a media briefing after the World Health Organisation declared the virus a global emergency.
