A woman has survived 38 hours at sea without a life jacket after falling Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Mariner of the Seas on 10 August.

Ms Fan was travelling from Shanghai when she fell overboard, being found by a local fishing boat on 12 August.

Royal Caribbean released a statement saying “An adult female guest was reported missing from Mariner of the Seas on 10 August 2016, during a four-night sailing from Shanghai. We are grateful to learn she is safe.”

The statement adds that many of our crew members assisted in searching for her.

“We all share the family’s relief in her safe return home. We also thank the crew of the vessel that rescued her for their care and professionalism,” the statement added.

Royal Caribbean added that together with local authorities, safety procedures were strictly followed during the incident, including notifying and receiving guidance from authorities.

“We will continue to provide support to the guest and family involved. It is our intention to respect our guest’s desire for privacy and we hope others will respect her wishes as well,” the cruise line said.
