Why we need to watch this tech trend

Wearable electronics such as the Apple Watch are increasingly impacting the way we travel, with the industry advised to take note of this latest tech trend.

Euromonitor data shows that the products have edged their way out of the niche sector to become the world’s best-selling consumer electronics product behind smartphones.

“Wearable electronics are forecast to exceed 305 million units in 2020, with a compound annual growth rate of 55% over the next five years,” the market research company said.

Consumers are already accessing airline information, Uber bookings, TripAdvisor and hotel reservations via this type of technology. Google Maps also launched an app in September 2015.

“Continued innovation and new applications will define the success of this category and its importance to the travel industry,” Euromonitor warned.

The company will reveal its latest round of predictions at this year’s World Travel Market which takes place in London from November 2 to 5.
