What are passengers tuning into on planes?

Passengers in a plane seen from behind, above seats

Have you ever found yourself standing in the line for the bathroom on a flight and begun peering over passengers’ shoulders to see what they’re watching?

So have we.

But we all know sometimes it can be a little difficult without looking like an absolute creep.

Though, if like the cat your curiosity cannot be quenched, Lonely Planet and Qantas have conducted some very necessary research to find out what people watch on flights.

Personally, we’ve been rewatching the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series on repeat since we began flying.

According to the travel site, Aussie flyers are suckers for animation, as Dreamworks’ Boss Baby came in as the top most watched film on local airlines for 2017.

This could be pinned down to parents switching on the film to keep their youngins quiet, or perhaps passengers are genuinely interested in a baby becoming a boss.

As well as watching Alec Baldwin be a baby, Aussie flyers have also been tucking into; Logan, Hidden Figures, Beauty and the Beast, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Lion, La La Land, Baywatch, Kong: Skull Island, and Baby Driver.

All in all, we watched a whopping 22 million hours of in-flight entertainment on Qantas in 2017.

In the words of our mum, ‘Whatever happened to reading a book’?

Though it’s not just movies that captured our attention. In true 2017 fashion, we got seriously stuck into binge-watching.

Game of Thrones was most watched for drama, however, it was Modern Family that won overall as the most-watched TV show on Qantas.

David Attenborough’s Planet Earth was the most watched doco and a film about obesity, titled ‘Why are we fat?’ followed closely behind.

So there you have it folks, turns out we just want to watch babies, animals and learn about weight issues.
