WA’s food and wine festival gets a boost

The Margaret River Gourmet Escape is set to grow into a “world-leading” food and wine festival under a new West Australian government culinary tourism strategy.

Seafood, agriculture and beverage industries will work with the state government to build WA’s reputation, with the aim of seeing visitor spending increase from $8.7 billion to $12 billion by 2020.

Premier Colin Barnett said the strategy also included initiatives to improve service quality, develop and promote food and wine trails, expand Aboriginal cultural experiences, and the potential for other similar festivals.
