Visit the world’s last Northern White Rhinos with Intrepid

For those of you who don’t know, today is Endangered Species Day!

Though, unlike many other special days, this isn’t exactly a cause for celebration. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness and learn about how we can protect endangered animals.

That’s why Intrepid Travel has chosen today to launch an expedition to Kenya to visit the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos.

The extinction of the species hit news headlines this year with the death of Sudan, the last known male northern white rhino.

“We must raise awareness of the issues and promote responsible wildlife tourism experiences in order to stem the supply and the demand for illegal wildlife products around the world,” Intrepid Travel Regional Director Asia Pacific Brett Mitchell said.

“Our travellers expect us to deliver best practice on the ground and as a business, we have been a long-term vocal advocate for responsible travel,” Mitchell said.

The seven-day Kenya Expedition will be an interactive conservation experience to build awareness and fund research to support rhinos and endangered animals.

“It’s one thing to hear or talk about the plight of these animals from afar, but it is entirely different to see them in person and make an emotional connection with the reality of the situation,” Mitchell said.

Each traveller enables a donation through Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit organisation The Intrepid Foundation to the East African Wildlife Society which directly supports anti-poaching programs in the Maasai Mara.webimage-528BE1B3-B365-48FF-86D38E698338CBF4

There will also be a community visit in Nairobi to spend time with local women and hear about female Maasai culture through storytelling and song.
