Virgin Australia takes its A330 to Fiji

Virgin Australia has announced it will deploy its widebody Airbus A330-200 aircraft internationally for the first time.

The launch will kick off for the inaugural trip on the Sydney-Nadi, Fiji route, with the 279-seater introduced on Saturdays during peak travel periods.

The move comes in response to increased demand, and Virgin’s chief commercial officer Judith Crompton said the announcement is part of their strategy to remain flexible, responsive and supportive of customer demands.

“Fiji will be our first international A330 destination since acquiring the aircraft in 2010,” she said.

“The A330 has 24 lie-flat business class seats which triples the number of premium class seats normally available on the route in response to the sustained increase in demand for premium product and services on flights to Fiji.

“Additionally when our world-class Business Class Suites are introduced on the A330 fleet, we will have the best premium product on the Sydney – Fiji route.

“This is also great news for Velocity Frequent Flyers with more chances to redeem points for upgrades and reward seats.”

The A330s are currently scheduled to operate on Saturdays during the following periods: 4 April 2015 – 18 April 2015; 20 June 2015 – 24 October 2015, and select days during the Christmas and New Year period.

The A330 will also be introduced between Sydney and Melbourne during select morning weekday peak periods, as well as during international sporting events where there are jumps in demand during short periods.

Customers are able to see the type of aircraft scheduled to operate a flight during the booking process.

Virgin Australia operates up to 22 flights per week between Nadi, Fiji and Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
