If you work in travel, the desire to travel is strong. But if you’re a travel company, you need a base to start from.

This is where the industry’s best offices step in. We take a sneak peek at the companies who bring the world into their cubicles and whisk staff away with global inspiration.

AMADEUS

Second in line for the most modern office is Amadeus’ beacon to sustainability in Sydney’s Chinatown. Located on the top floor, the three floors of their office is connected by wooden staircases and homes 350 staff.

Agents who have trained here will recall the front reception. It leaves quite the impression, with a got to dot light installation that flashes on and off, a little like a transport hub. The monochrome palette deliberately moved away from the blue logo of Amadeus, as the design team wanted to keep it simple and elegant.

More than it looks however, is its functionality. As you’d expect from a technology company, the tech is impressive. Touchscreens sit next to meeting rooms marking bookings while paper is non-existent. Large screens Sustainability is at the core of the office space, with the building rated 5 stars for its green credentials.

This trickles down to the way staff work, with activity based working, which means no permanent staff desks and plenty of spaces for collaboration and meetings. This system means less real estate. The desks can be seated or standing, with employees expounding on energy improvements while standing. All food is consumed in the cafeteria, which overlooks UTS’s Frank Gehry building as well as the city skyline and sunset.

It took 16 months to move into this new space and it continues to evolve with staff needs, as the number of standing desks are to be increased as well as the quiet rooms. The best space moulds to fit the people, as this surely does.
