Travelodge launches Ubed for Sydney Comedy Festival

Last night we had the side-splitting privilege of attending the Travelodge’s first ever pop-up comedy club.

And we noticed something a bit peculiar parked out the front…

It was a bicycle, with a bed attached to it like a trailer, or the Ubed, as it’s come to be known.

Festival partner Travelodge Hotels has developed this novel mode of transport to pick up festival-goers in central Sydney and deliver them to Comedy Festival gigs.

That’s right, you can rock up to a comedy gig in a bed.

The rickshaw style bike has a full-size in-built bed which took to the streets last night, providing comfort and relaxation for its passengers, right up to theatre doors.

If a horizontal ride into the city complete with pillow and doona doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, passengers will ensure their chuckle levels are high pre-show with an extra dose of comedy along the way.

Up-and-coming Australian comedian Becky Lucas will join you for the ride, delivering bedside jokes to get the laughter endorphins pumping ahead of the main event.

“Lie-down comedy is basically the new stand-up,” said Lucas.

“The Ubed is the perfect way to get guests and myself warmed up pre-gig.”

“It’s a hybrid of travel, comedy and comfort – what more could you want.”

Passengers can travel two abreast while enjoying their journey through the city.

Lie-Down Comedy as a new genre now has an innovative combination of joke telling, transport and horizontal comfort.

Naps are encouraged and selfie sticks are provided, though its BYO pyjamas.

Honestly, we are so here for something that combines our two greatest passions: comedy and naps.

Sydney Comedy Festival ticketholders can book their Ubed journey here.

Places are limited so reserve a spot now!

We were kicking ourselves that we missed out last night, so don’t make the same mistake we did.

Make sure you also pop in to Travelodge Hotel Sydney’s own pop-up comedy show where Sydney Comedy Festival acts will be making special appearances on Monday nights from the 30th of April to the 14th of may.

We almost fell out of our chairs laughing at the likes of Andrew Maxwell, Al Del Bene, Becky Lucas, David Quirk, Ciaran Lyons and David Smiedt last night.

This is one not to be missed.
