The most annoying kind of hotel guest

The most annoying kind of hotel guest

When you check into a hotel there are two types of people: those who don’t cause any trouble, and those who do.

But which type of guest is the most annoying?

From drunken behaviour at the bar to rowdy toddlers roaming the halls, it’s time to settle the score.

Expedia asked over 1000 Americans to rank the kind of hotel behaviour that irritates them most, to once and for all work out who we dread most when checking into a hotel.

At the top with 67%, it’s not surprising that inattentive parents are considered most annoying, given their unruly children then contribute to an unpleasant experience.

And at a close second, at 64%, was the ‘Hallway Hellraisers’, otherwise known as those ridiculously loud people who feel the need to shout right outside your hotel room door.

Expedia.com’s vice president and general manager John Morrey said the takeaway from the survey should be to always consider how your actions affect others – wise words.

“A modicum of consideration for your fellow travellers can go a very long way and may ultimately enhance your overall travel experience,” he said.

But there were a number of guest types that make our skin crawl, so take a squiz and see if you can relate:

  1. Inattentive Parents – 67%
  2. The Hallway Hellraisers – 64%
  3. The Complainers – 54%
  4. The In-Room Revelers (noisemakers nearby) – 52%
  5. The Bickerers – 26%
  6. The Poolside Partiers – 22%
  7. The Loudly Amorous (indiscreet lovemakers) – 21%
  8. The Hot Tub Canoodlers (amorous couples in a public hot tub) – 20%
  9. The Business Bar Boozer (sloshed business travelers) – 12%
  10. The Elevator Chatterbox – 6%
