The Big Fat Cruise Wrap
Just like a wrap with too many ingredients can ruin the flavour, we’ve split up our agent news and our ocean news for a cruise-worthy rundown.
From agent wrap to cruise wrap, we’re rounding up the latest and greatest cruise news for you to get your head around, and to save you some time this hump day.
If you missed yesterday’s agent wrap you can find it here, and keep your eyes peeled for a hotel wrap tomorrow!
But for now, let’s set sail with this wrap up of cruise goodness.
Royal splashes about onboard
Royal Caribbean International will amp up the adventure when the cruise line debuts Harmony of the Seas and its world-first feature Splashaway Bay, an interactive aqua park for kids.
Together with the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea touting a 31-metre plunge, and The Perfect Storm trio of water slides, the latest addition in Splashaway Bay will make Harmony of the Seas the ultimate family holiday experience when she debuts in May 2016.
There’s something for all ages, with sea creature water cannons, winding slides, a gigantic drench bucket and a multi-platform jungle-gym, while thrill seekers can test their mettle in Supercell, a champagne bowl that swirls guests around as they descend towards a big splash finale.
Throw a ‘Stone’ out to sea
Princess Cruises has unveiled details of SHARE by Curtis Stone, the Australian chef’s first restaurant at sea, which will arrive in local waters early next year.
Sun Princess will be the first Australian-based Princess ship to feature SHARE, with the restaurant opening onboard in April 2016, following its debut on Ruby Princess and Emerald Princess in the northern hemisphere this December and its January launch on Coral Princess cruising the Panama Canal.
SHARE offers an exclusive specialty dining experience for guests with a menu of signature dishes imagined for sharing, with a signature shared communal table, low-backed leather banquettes and decorative curios from Curtis’ collection.
The “Crafted by Curtis” menu items will roll out fleet-wide through the end of 2015, while Curtis Stone’s Chef’s Table experience will debut in early 2016.
Think big, think GRAND
Silversea has announced the launch of five newly-created voyages that offer guests an experience that moves from sea to land and back to sea again.
Known as Grand Expeditions, the journeys range from 18 to 34 days, with each Grand Expedition commencing with an expedition cruise in the Galapágos Islands, before connecting to a land adventure. The journey then culminates with a voyage exploring the coast of Central America, South America, or Antarctica.
Featured in the package are hotel accommodations, land tours, return air travel between Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands, intra-tour air travel and ground transportation, as well as charter flights to Ushuaia, if applicable.
Fly, train and cruise with Cunard
Stay at fine hotels in Paris, London and New York, take a Eurostar rail trip from Paris to London and enjoy a classic, seven-night Cunard Queen Mary 2 ocean liner voyage from Southampton to New York.
They are all included in ‘Paris, London and New York – Fly Cruise Queen Mary 2’, the latest cruise holiday offering from Worldwide Cruise Centres, with the holiday lasting 15 nights.
Flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth to Paris and back from New York are included in the cost, starting at A$5899 per person twin share from Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, A$6149 from Brisbane and A$5799 from Perth.
And if you book by August 31 2015, you receive a complimentary all-inclusive drinks package, which includes alcohol, before the tours kick off on May 4 2016.
Explore Burma with Pandaw
Pandaw has announced the launch of four exciting new voyages exploring Burma’s Deep South and the remote Mergui Archipelago.
The sailings will depart in February and March 2016 aboard the MY Drenec, a high-class expedition ship with only five well-appointed cabins (each with private bathroom) including a spacious upper deck owner’s suite.
Pandaw’s new coastal voyages will explore the southern region of Burma between a small Mon town of Thanbyuzayat and southernmost town of Victoria Point. The region was closed to tourism until mid-2013 and there is still little infrastructure in the town and cities, but now is possible to explore the undiscovered old colonial ports and tropical islands.
Pandaw’s itinerary also visits charming Moulmein and includes a stop at Kyaiktiyo Pagoda famous for its Golden Rock.
