Skyscanner growth skyrocketing

Skyscanner continues to pave the way as the global travel search company providing free search of flights, hotels and car hire around the world, experiencing growth nearly double that of last year.

With total revenues at $183 million, gross bookings have increased by 49 percent $11.2 billion.

Speaking to Travel Weekly, Skyscanner senior marketing manager, Emily Callahan, said that 2015 was another strong year for Skyscanner, showing solid progress in strategy of expansion beyond its home market, into mobile and beyond flights.

Callahan attributed the growth to direct relationships with partners and travellers and the self-built technology that underpins the company’s success.

“Key milestones in 2015 included visitors to Skyscanner experiencing 48 percent growth over the prior year, with a record 50 million monthly visitors,” Callahan said.

The past 12 months has seen Skyscanner focus its product and the travel experience towards being very localised, and this will vary from country to country.

In Australia there are 2 million unique users visiting the site a month, growing solidly at 50 percent year on year.

“The shift to mobile is becoming more and more pronounced, mobile growth rate is at 60 percent,” Callahan added.

“Skyscanner is continually evolving its product, with some exciting things in the works in the coming year.”
