Rex cites travel agency partnership for record performance, secures new Boeing 737

Rex announced a record performance in August, citing its new partnerships with travel agency groups and corporate accounts for its success.

Rex posted a 25 per cent increase in passenger numbers and a 38 per cent increase in revenue bookings compared to July. This followed the airline’s record performance in July where Rex saw an overall load factor of 86 per cent. The airline said that the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Sydney-Melbourne-Brisbane routes accounted for much of its improved performance.

“Our turnaround now has strong momentum as our key metrics continue to improve month-on-month in this new Financial Year,” Rex’s executive chairman, Lim Kim Hai, said.

“Our new partnerships with travel agency groups and corporate accounts are now starting to deliver the intended outcomes as reflected in August numbers.

“We can look forward to even stronger performance in the months ahead when the new arrangements are fully bedded down.”

On top of the record performance, Rex has taken delivery of another Boeing 737-800NG. The aircraft, registered VH-MFM, arrived in Brisbane last night from Montpellier in France, adorned in the Rex livery.

Prior to being painted, the aircraft underwent a scheduled maintenance check at an engineering facility in Montpellier. It is the seventh Boeing 737-800NG to be added to Rex’s Air Operator’s Certificate and will enter service in early September.

“Our seventh aircraft allows us to meet the ever-increasing demand for Rex’s services given the shocking reliability on both Qantas and Virgin Australia,” Rex deputy chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM, said.

“Demand for Rex flights is so great that we are urgently looking for another two Boeing 737-800NGs which we hope to deploy by Q2 – Q3 of this Financial Year.”
