Players disrupt US$300B business travel industry

The US$300 billion business travel industry appears likely to face the next wave of digital disruption on the back of Uber winning over business clients, and Airbnb launching a revamped service for corporate users.

Now this, Expensify and Locomote have announced a new integration partnership to automate business travel in Asia Pacific.

The Australian travel tech firm, Locomote said the move would simplify business travel, making it more efficient and smarter in the region.

“The partnership will make business travel an integrated experience, connecting all the tools needed to plan, book and report business trips in real-time, saving organisations up to 35% in costs,” the company stated.

According to the firm, Expensify’s SmartScan used to capture payment data directly from receipts, will be seamlessly synched with Locomote’s travel solution, to enable companies to manage every aspect of business travel, including authorisations, duty of care, budgets, expenses and more.

The integration will give businesses complete control and visibility of their employee travel spend, according to the firm, and will all the import of all transactions into their accounting package to automatically create reports based on itinerary dates and incurred expenses.

The strategic partnership with Expensify comes off the back of Locomote’s rapid growth in the last 12 months, signing customers such as ANZ, Allen & Overy, Medibank and World Vision.

“We are confident that the Locomote-Expensify partnership will deliver a leading travel and expense solution to the corporate market. Together, we are giving companies a holistic view of their business travel and the true cost of each trip,” Expensify ceo and founder, David Barrett, said.

“Locomote is a unique solution with a solid infrastructure. They have the product knowledge and expertise which allowed us to ramp up efforts and hit the market hard and at speed.”

From travel reservations to incidental expenses, Expensify and Locomote is set to increase efficiencies for both employees and administrators.

“The Locomote platform, which now includes a seamless integrated expense management system, will simplify business travel for employees, travel managers, financial departments and everyone in between,” Locomote ceo, , Philip Weinman, said.
