Plane sinks after overshooting landing in Micronesia

An Air Niugini plane has sunk in a lagoon after overshooting the runway in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

The Guardian reports all 36 passengers and crew were rescued from the partially submerged Boeing 737-800.

It’s not yet clear whether the plane, which usually flies between Pohnpei in FSM and Port Moresby, crashed on landing or take-off.

The airport manager, Jimmy Emilio, said the plane overshot its landing at around 9:30 am local time and wound up 160 meters from the runway, according to Pacific Daily News.
