People “hit the roof”, 2 hospitalised after sudden turbulence incident on Qantas flight

Two people have been taken to hospital following an incident onboard a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Hervey Bay.

Five customers and crew were treated at the airport for minor injuries.

Qantaslink flight QF2376, which was being operated by a De Havilland Canada Dash 8, struck “a sudden turbulence event” around 30 minutes into the flight.

Data from FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft was at an altitude of 16,000 feet when it began to circle above the Rainbow Bay area.

It then circled for around 8 minutes before heading south towards Brisbane. It circled for a few moments just south or Rainbow Bay before descending and arriving in Brisbane 30 minutes later.

Passengers onboard the plane told 7News people had been thrown to the ceiling in the incident.

“All of a sudden there was just a loud crash and a couple of people weren’t strapped and hit the top, hit the roof,” one passenger reported.

Qantas says initial indications suggest the injured customers were not wearing seatbelts.

Cabin crew helped attend to customers in the air and once the aircraft landed on the ground, and passengers were reaccommodated on a flight to Hervey Bay last night.
