Passenger punches flight attendant in face

A male passenger on an Emirates flight to Melbourne had to be restrained after attacking a female flight attendant.

The passenger was onboard the flight from Dubai to Melbourne last night, when he had to be wrestled by two passengers and another flight attendant, then cable-tied, after punching her in the face.

The man was travelling with a young boy, according to News.com.au reports, and had asked for more space to lie down, however reacted badly when this was refused.

“He was struggling to communicate and there was a bit of a disagreement and then one of the flight attendants essentially walked off,” passenger Matt Naylor told 3AW.

“He went after her and I decided to go and see what it was all about.”

Per news.com.au, Naylor said he saw the “aftermath” of the passenger assaulting the woman.

“And then a male flight attendant, another gentleman and myself sort of jumped on the man and pushed him to the ground,” he added.

The cable ties were used on both his hands and feet, before they put the man back in his seat and strapped him in with an extended seatbelt.

Naylor allegedly said the flight attendant told him she was punched in the face “a few times”.

“She was quite shaken up by it,” he told 3AW.

The passenger was apparently still agitated after he had been cable-tied, and at one staged tried to “headbutt two of the flight attendants trying to offer him water”, according to news.com.au.

“He was very irritated, very worked up, crying, yelling, it was quite unpleasant,” Naylor said, adding that he didn’t believe the passenger was drunk.

Police said the man wasn’t arrested due to personal circumstances.
