A massive earthquake has hit northern Peru, causing widespread damage to homes and roads, and leaving at least one person dead and 11 others injured.
The earthquake struck yesterday approximately 75 kilometres southeast of Lagunas, which has a population of almost 10,000 people, at a depth of 110 kilometres below the Earth’s surface.
The quake caused widespread damage to homes and roads, and is the strongest one to hit the country in more than a decade.

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said there was no tsunami threat to Australia from the huge quake.
