Daisy Melwani

With over 15 years of travel and tourism experience in product development, marketing, communication and destination promotion under his belt, Ben Alcock joins the Sultanate of Oman Tourism as PR & Communications Director for its Australian and New Zealand office.

“I’m thrilled to be taking up this role. The opportunity to help bring promotion of this remarkable destination to life, to tell the stories of its wonderful people and places, and encourage more travellers to expand their horizons and visit is a rare one indeed,” Alcock told Travel Weekly.

Alcock has previously held roles at Virgin Atlantic, Hill & Knowlton (Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority), the Flight CentreTravel Group, World Resorts of Distinction. He also runs his own travel blog, ‘Disarm Doors & Crosscheck’, and is a regular presenter on ABC’s ‘Planes, Passports and Postcards’ travel segment.

“It’s a real privilege to join such a well-respected and energetic team, and I look forward to playing a part in its ongoing success,” he said.

Sultanate of Oman Tourism country manager, Mona Tannous states: “Ben brings incredible experience to the Oman team; his passion for his work, the destination, his ability to understand the market and speak to consumers across various media platforms made him perfect for the role. Having Ben on board we will be ready to implement our innovative long term tourism strategy for Australia & New Zealand that will see a greater focus on driving the “experience and journey” of Oman to the consumer market”.

Arrivals into Oman have consistently seen double digit growth from Australia. Alcock commences in the role from February 9.

The tourism office has also appointed Margaret Spiro as its NZ Account Manager.
