Norfolk Island changing time

Norfolk Island changing time

Norfolk Island will introduce a permanent change to its year-round time zone from next Sunday morning, October 4 2015.

At 2.00am on Sunday, Norfolk Island time will become 1.30am in a move which is designed to provide easier access for local businesses when engaging with the Australian mainland and attract increased opportunities and appeal for the island’s major tourist market.

The change to a recognised time zone will also resolve any technical issues which may have previously existed with computers and other electronic equipment on the island.

The new Norfolk Island time zone will be GMT + 11 (or UTC + 11 hours).

As a result of this change, Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time, which also commences on October 4, means New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, will now be adopting Norfolk Island’s new time for about six months of every year.

Norfolk Island is long-regarded as a wonderful place to holiday with family and friends or escape with a loved one.

In addition to fabulous culinary experiences, countless activities include swimming, fishing, snorkelling, kayaking, surfing and bushwalking. There are glass bottom boat tours and ocean trips to Phillip Island, and attractions including Fletcher’s Mutiny Cyclorama.

A further attraction of historical significance is the World Heritage listed Kingston and Arthurs Vale Historic Area, the oldest of the eleven Australian penal colonies.
